About Mail

Another Postage Meter Advantage!

There are many advantages to using a postage meter instead of stamps. A few of these advantages include convenience, easy tracking of postage funds, professional appearance of the mailpiece, security of postage and the ability to imprint unique ads and messages along side the indicia.

And here's one more benefit. Heavy mailpieces with meter indicia do not need to be deposited at a Post Office™. This was one of the primary reasons why one Pitney Bowes customer decided to invest in a meter.

Prior to having a meter, due to postal security regulations, this customer's heavy stamped mail had to be taken to the Post Office™. By metering the mail, a daily trip to the post office was eliminated. The time and gasoline savings more than paid for the meter rental!

Here are the details. Mailers using collection boxes to deposit stamped mail may only do so for lightweight pieces. Mailers must take stamped mail weighing 13 ounces or more to a retail service counter at a Post Office™. The weight limit changed on July 30, 2007 from "16 ounces and over" to "over 13 ounces" and mailers will see a new decal on collection boxes announcing the change.

Information on the decal includes the fact that stamped mail weighing more than 13 ounces and deposited in the collection box will be returned to the sender. It would be a shame to have a business-critical mailpiece returned. Whew! Good thing you've got a Pitney Bowes postage meter!
